Given the number of zeros in the results my guess is that your
database is empty or else corrupted.

Given the number of zeros in the results my guess is that your
database is empty or else corrupted.
I downloaded version 1.4d, compiled it with:

./configure --with-db=/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.2/ --prefix=/usr/bin/

did make and make install, and now this appears:

[***@nwyfre ~]$ spamprobe -d hash:64:$HOME/.spamprobe
error: hash file /home/paul/.spamprobe/sp_words.hash does not exist and
cannot be created in read-only mode caught runtime exception: unable to
open words database

The message speaks the truth: the file does not exist (it should be created though... according to the README.txt).

$HOME/.spamprobe as a directory exists. Since a long long time...

Ehmmm.... help? :)

Here is some more extended debugging info. I hope it means something to the experts, since I am still not able to build a new database for spamprobe.

[***@nwyfre spamprobe]$ ./spamprobe -v -v -d $HOME/.spamprobe/
usage: spamprobe [options] command [args]
Try "spamprobe help" to list all commands and options.
or "spamprobe help command" for detailed help on a single command.

Okay. With the new DB compiled and in place SP is no longer complaining about anything.
I'll abandon the hash-database and retrain SP using the DB database.

(Where's the spam when you're waiting for it!! ;-)

This is probably an error in the README. You should use the create-db
command like so:

spamprobe -cd hash:$HOME/.spamprobe create-db
